Get ready for the AllWriters’ Workplace & Workshop: Storytelling and the Cultivation of Empathy in the Age of Loneliness!
“The highest function of the human mind is imagination. The highest function of imagination is empathy.” – Dean Young, The Art of Recklessness
We are comprised of stories.
Stories unite us, and in a time of division brought by evil, we need all the solidarity we can get. (I don’t know about you, but one of the dwindling reasons I attend parties nowadays is to hear a few good stories from old or new friends.)
All our stories are complicated and fascinating, inherently flawed in a variety of ways: the imprecisions of language and memory, or the ways our ego may modify what happened to make us look a bit cooler. And we carry them within ourselves with passion and import, because, at some fundamental level, we know that they are like atoms: we are comprised of stories.
Utilizing texts by authors including (but not limited to!) Leslie Marmon Silko, Gloria E. Anzuldúa, and Claudia Rankine, this studio-style workshop will ask writers to write their stories, and consider the cultural and political implications of the stories they hold. We will also listen to each other’s stories and construct collaborative cross-experience pieces.
FRANKLIN K. R. CLINE is an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation, a Distinguished Dissertation Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a member of Woodland Pattern Book Center’s Board of Directors, and the book reviews and interviews editor for cream city review. His first book, So What, is available via Vegetarian Alcoholic Press.
At AllWriters’, we strive to bring you the best! Several times a year, we offer a Celebrity Saturday, which brings in a better-known, better-published author to work with you for one intensive day. Celebrity Saturday authors have included Jane Hamilton, Jacquelyn Mitchard, Michael Perry, A. Manette Ansay, Marilyn Taylor, Ellen Kort, and many, many more!
Celebrity Saturdays are a great chance to broaden your knowledge of what it takes to be successful and to learn from writers who are already knee deep in an author’s life. Franklin K.R. Cline’s workshop will be held on Saturday, May 25th, 2019. This event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and costs just $95, which includes a lunch catered by Waukesha’s own Café de Art!
AllWriters’ Workplace and Workshop offers on-site and online writing courses in all genres and abilities of creative writing, as well as coaching, editing, and marketing services.
A schedule of classes, with online registration, is available at www.allwritersworkshop.com or by calling (262) 446-0284.
